William Marion McGough, Jr.

Dr. William Marion "Bill" McGough, Jr., 74, of Reidsville, died Saturday, June 13, 2026, surrounded by his family.

A gathering of friends will be held on July 1, 2026, from 5-7 p.m. at Citty Funeral home, 308 Lindsey Street Reidsville, NC 27320. 

He was born on February 13, 1952, in Columbia, South Carolina, to Elizabeth Ann Buehler McGough and the late William Marion McGough. His parents later moved to Greenville, Mississippi, where he grew up and met many lifelong friends. This is where he grew his love for horses, motorcycles, and fast cars.  Bill was a retired family medicine physician who was a provider with Belmont Medical Associates. He lived and practiced in Reidsville, North Carolina, for more than forty years and took great pride in serving his community as a family care doctor. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro.

Bill graduated from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and went on to earn his medical degree from the University of Mississippi.  During this time he was a member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity.  He loved traveling and the adventures that came with it, including seeing his favorite Dutch violinist and conductor, André Rieu, perform in Maastricht, Netherlands. Bill enjoyed good food and a good party, both of which he found in abundance while visiting family in New Orleans.

He had a lifelong appreciation for restoring antique cars with the help of friends and was fortunate enough to acquire a few over the years. Bill enjoyed playing golf and cards with his buddies. He looked forward to coordinating his annual golf weekend with friends. Bill loved spending time with his grandchildren by showing them his extensive train collection and playing on his many pinball machines. He really looked forward to the holidays, where his house would be full and loud again with all his family. For those that knew him, his quick wit and sly sense of humor were unmatched.

Surviving are his wife, Martha Scott McGough, of almost forty-three years; his mother, Elizabeth B. McGough, of New Orleans, Louisiana; his children, Elizabeth M. Barbee (Ben) of Greensboro, Ashley M. Mills (Ryan) of Greensboro, Caroline M. Grafton (Eddie) of Hayden, Idaho, and William Marion McGough III (Marissa) of Apex; his sister, Maury McGough (Rick) of Marblehead, Massachusetts; his brothers, John McGough of New Orleans, Louisiana, and David McGough (Sophie) of Austin, Texas; and his grandchildren, Hooper Barbee, Eliza Price Barbee, Mac Mills, Wilson Mills, Anderson Mills, and Henry Grafton.
