Terry McCollum Obituary

Jane Terry Key McCollum, 84, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 13, 2026.

Born on February 21, 1942, in Reidsville, North Carolina, Terry was the daughter of Malcolm Merle and Alyce Neighbors Key. Terry attended Reidsville High School and met Charles (“Charlie”) Gray McCollum there. After graduating from Martinsville High School in Virginia, where her family had relocated, Terry married her high school sweetheart Charlie McCollum. Wed on September 2, 1961, inseparable from that date on, Terry and Charlie shared 62 happy years together in Reidsville. Their greatest joy was their son Mitchell Gray McCollum.

Terry worked for many years as a medical secretary and transcriptionist. A passionate and gifted artist, she expressed her creativity through oil, acrylics, charcoal, watercolor paintings and printmaking. Terry was a member of the Studio Group of Rockingham County, Piedmont Art Association, Lynwood Artists, Danville Art League, Winston-Salem Art League, and the Rockingham County Fine Arts Festival. She instructed art classes to children in her home and taught classes for adults at Rockingham Community College. Her art hangs in Reidsville area banks and homes. Her remaining art will be lovingly passed on to the Key family and the many McCollum family members, whom she loved.

Terry was an enthusiastic bridge player and avid reader. She was a longtime member of the book club Women of Title and participated in the Women’s Bible Study group at Woodmont United Methodist Church and a faithful congregant at the First Presbyterian Church of Reidsville. She will be remembered for her mischievous sense of humor, quick wit, and the warmth she brought to her family and friends.

She is survived by her son Mitchell McCollum and daughter-in-law Jennifer (Greensboro, NC); her brother Stephen Key (Birmingham, AL); her brothers- and sisters-in-law, John and Sandra McCollum, Hal and Anne McCollum, Nathan and Theresa McCollum, and Alvin and Terry McCollum; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
