Ruth Hudgins Ashley

Ruth Hudgins Ashley, 92, of Reidsville, went to be with her Lord Tuesday November 30, 2021 at her home.

Memorial services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Saturday December 4, 2021 at First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens. The family will see friends following the service in the vestibule of the church.

A native of Person County, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Janie Marshall Hudgins and had lived most of her life in Reidsville. A retired elementary school teacher for the Reidsville City School System with over 30 years of service, she graduated from Elon College and received a Masters Degree in Education from UNCG. Ruth was an active member of First Baptist Church where she had served as a Deacon, sang in the choir and served on numerous committees throughout her life. She participated in several mission trips. Mrs. Ashley volunteered at Annie Penn Hospital for over thirty years, where she served on the Board of Directors of the Ladies Auxiliary and was a Heritage Club member. She was an active and devoted member of Alpha Delta Kappa International Honorary Organization for Women Educators, Psi Chapter. She was a cancer survivor and participated in Relay for Life for a number of years.

She was preceded in death by her husband Carlton W. Ashley, six brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include her daughter: Vicky A. Thompson (Finley) of Snow Camp, sons: Michael D. Ashley (Betty) and Stacy R. Ashley (Miranda) both of Reidsville, grandchildren: Samantha Whittington (Paul), J.C. Ashley (Courtney), Dr. Brad Thompson (Elizabeth) and Ashley Thompson, five great grandchildren, and a sister: Janie Hopkins (Bill) of Danville, VA.
