Ruby Butler Swift, 99, of Elon gained her heavenly wings Monday September 18, 2023 at the Hospice Home in Burlington. She was married to the late Robert W. Swift for 75 years and raised three children. Born in the Camp Springs Community of Caswell County to the late Stokes E. and Florence Saunders Butler, she lived most of her adult life in the same community on the Swift farm.
She was a licensed beautician for many years as well as a homemaker in earlier years. A very active lady that was an excellent cook, she took great pride in her yard, home and garden. She continued to work hard until the end. A dedicated and long time member of Camp Springs Community Church. She loved to read and work mind puzzles.
She is survived by her daughter: Janice K. Swift of the home, her son: Robert Keith Swift of Elon, grandchildren: Ron Swift (Adrienne), Seth Swift (Christy), and Tommie Stanley (Nicole), great grandchildren: Jordan Swift, Ethan Swift, Noelle Swift, Aaron Swift, Tommie Stanley, and Pressley Stanley. Sisters: Naomi Parker, Doris Byrd, Lois Aldridge, Shirley Compton, and a brother: Melvin Butler (Mary).
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband: Robert W. Swift, her son: Ronald Allen Swift, grandsons: Robert Matthew Swift, Ryan Adam Swift, and daughter-in-law: Sheryl S. Swift, sisters and husbands: Alene and Wilbert Paschal, Elmer and Freeman Somers, Brenda and David Siens, sister: Frances Page, brothers-in-law: Ace Parker, Wilbur Byrd, Wilbur Aldridge, and William Compton, brother: Connie Mack Butler, and two infants.
A graveside service will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Thursday September 21, 2023 in Camp Spring Community Church Cemetery. There is to be no visitation per her request. A Celebration of her life will be held December 30, 2023 on what would have been her 100th birthday.
