A son of the late Herbert Gordon and Thelma Pike Brooks, Philip was born on November 28, 1941, and lived in Reidsville all of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister, Virginia (Ginger) Brooks Grogan.
Phil was a member of Grace Fellowship at South Park (formerly First Congregational Christian Church) and was president and co-owner of Chaseline for approximately 20 years. When his boys, Kris and Jay, were young, he helped them pursue their interests by coaching football, becoming a Boy Scout leader, attending and assisting with swim meets, and participating in the Guilford Militia for historical re-enactments of the Revolutionary War.
He was a member of the Reidsville Jaycees where he was honored with a lifetime membership.
As he got older, he became passionate about restoring Model T Fords and joined a club of like-minded people, the Tarheel T’s. This club was more like a family as they shared tech sessions to work on their cars and went on tours, including overnight camping!
The joys of his life were his children, grandchildren, and especially, his two great grandchildren, Lily and Judah.
Survivors include his beloved wife of almost 60 years, Virginia (Ginny) Solomon Brooks, sons Christopher (Kris) Brooks (Regina) and Jason (Jay) Brooks (Denise), grandsons Austin Brooks, Tanner Brooks, Andrew Underwood (Chantel) and Adam Underwood (Esther), granddaughter Savannah Amey (Max), great-grandchildren Lily Brooks (daughter of Austin) and Judah Underwood (son of Andrew and Chantel), sisters Marjorie Tuttle and Patricia Powell, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
