Pansy Wood Johnson

Pansy Wood Johnson, 93, of the Bethany Community in Rockingham County went to be with the Lord Sunday April 12, 2026 after a short illness at Ancora Compassionate Care Gibson House (formerly Hospice of Rockingham County)

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Thursday April 16, 2026 at New Lebanon Christian Church with Elder Gleason Worrell officiating.  Burial will be in New Lebanon Christian Church Cemetery. The family will see friends 6:00 till 8:00 P.m. Wednesday at Citty Funeral Home and at other times will be at the residence 4673 NC Hwy 65 Reidsville.

A native of Stokes County, she was a daughter of the late Walter M. and Fairy Wilkins Wood and had lived in Rockingham County most of her life. She and her husband Vernon Johnson farmed and owned and operated G and J Food and Garden Center for many years. A member of Walnut Cove Primitive Baptist Church she loved to garden, work in her flowers, and cook. She enjoyed a good conversation about Republican Politics, and she worked at the polls for a number of years. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death, her husband: Vernon Johnson, her sisters: Iris Hill and Mary Grogan, and her brothers: Allen Wood and Jack Wood.

Survivors include her son: Mark Randall Johnson (Julia) of Reidsville, daughter: Melanie Johnson Hagwood (Dale) of Reidsville, grandchildren: Casey Johnson (Candace), Molly Johnson Tuttle (Robert), Becky Hagwood, Sam Hagwood, and Matt Hagwood (Rebekah), great grandchildren: Adaline Tuttle, James Johnson, Zoey Garbade, Jayden Garbade and many loving nieces nephews and friends.

The family would like to thank her caregivers: Amber McCollum, Maggie Carty, Ruby Williams, and Debbie Smith for their care and concern while taking care of Mrs. Johnson.
