Claude Nathan Townsend, 65, of Reidsville, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at Annie Penn Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 PM on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at Citty Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Victor Johnson officiating. The family will see friends following the service.
Born in Guilford County, he was the son of the late Leroy Townsend and Lila Mae Jarman Townsend. Nathan was a graduate of Northeast Guilford High School, living most of his life in Greensboro before moving to Reidsville in 1998. He had previously attended First United Methodist Church in Reidsville. Nathan was a self-employed licensed general contractor and painter but was a true Jack-of-all-trades – there was nothing he could not do or fix. In his early adulthood, he was a skilled dirt track race car driver and an incredibly talented baseball and softball player. Known to be light-hearted and a jokester, Nathan loved to have a good time. An avid racing fan and die-hard Ford man, he was also a huge fan of the New York Yankees, San Francisco 49ers, and the North Carolina Tar Heels. Of all the things he was known for, being a proud father and grandfather was at the very top. He never missed an opportunity to tell anyone he came to know how much he loved his son and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leroy Townsend; stepfather Carl Medley; mother, Lila Medley; brothers: Gene Johnson, Terry Lee Johnson, and Lynn Johnson; sister, Sandra Hancock; and loving in-laws William “Bill” and Ruby Lineberry.
Left to cherish his memory are son, Scott Townsend and wife, Chelsea, of Reidsville; grandchildren: Gracyn Townsend, Caden Townsend, and Madelyn “Maddie” Townsend; mother of his son, Janet Townsend; sister, Lila Lois Patterson, and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family asks those that are planning to attend the service to wear something representing the North Carolina Tar Heels, New York Yankees, or San Francisco 49ers – Nathan would love that.
