Mildred Shields “Tommie” Ward, 81, of Reidsville went to be with the Lord Saturday December 21, 2024 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Saturday December 28, 2024 in Greenview Cemetery with Rev. Andrew Brown officiating. The family will see friends at the home 1616 Courtland Ave. Reidsville, NC.
A native of Alamance County, she was a daughter of the late Emory and Glayds Iddings Shields and had lived in Reidsville most of her life. She was a retired medical secretary at Annie Penn Hospital, where she worked in the Pathology Department for Dr. Cecil Burkhart. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, NC Preceptor Beta Zeta chapter in Greensboro. Tommie was a charter member of the chapter since November 1991, she joined BEO in March 1965 and was a Life Member of the sorority.
A member of Main Street United Methodist Church, she sold Mary Kay Cosmetics for many years. Tommie enjoyed watching movies, cooking, reading and looking after her pets of which she has had many throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her husband: William Franklin “Frank” Ward, and a brother: John Shields.
Survivors include her sons: Robert Thomas “Bobby” Ward (Bobbie Ann) of Reidsville, and Dr. Michael Lee Ward of St. Petersburg, Fla., grandchildren: Brittney Ward, Angelica Ward, Nathaniel Harris, and Makayla Harris.
