Rev. Michael Dale (Mike) Tillman, aka “Papa”, 78 of Reidsville, NC. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Rev. Michael Tillman, who died peacefully at his home on Saturday, June 20, 2026
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at Ellisboro Baptist Church located at 1604 Ellisboro Rd. Madison, NC with Rev. Gene Davis and Rev. Keith Roberts officiating. The family will receive friends 12:00 till 1:30 PM at the church. Burial will be at Ruffin Stacey Baptist Church Cemetery 261 Estes Rd, Ruffin, NC following the service. At other times the family will be at the home.
Born September 8, 1947 to the late Gilbert Clayborn and Margaret Rhew Tillman, Mike grew up surrounded by a loving family that shaped his values and faith. A proud US Navy Veteran, Mike’s dedication to serving his country and his Lord through the community was evident throughout his life. For over 42 years he served as a pastor to five churches in North Carolina located in the towns of Grover, Concord, Robbins, Ruffin and Madison, spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ and bringing hope to countless individuals. Mike’s education was rooted in his love for the scriptures and he attended several esteemed institutions including Mars Hill, Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute, Luther Rice Seminary and Mid-Atlantic Bible College. His academic pursuits culminated in a master’s degree, further strengthening his faith and his ministry.
He was married to his loving wife, Judy Brown Tillman, for 60 years and together they raised three children: Kim Tillman Walker (Tyler) of Reidsville, Michelle Tillman Pentz (Michael) of Oviedo, FL, and Gregory David Tillman (Melissa) of Eden. He is also survived by his brother Jimmy Tillman (Ethel) of Roxboro. They were blessed with a big family that includes five grandchildren: Ryan Walker (Jahavier), Jada Walker, Dylan Cochran, Sarah Catherine Mouton, Easton Tillman, and great granddaughter: Tatum Walker. He was preceded in death by a sister: Sybil Tillman Crabtree, a brother: Lawrence Tillman, a grandson: Andrew Mouton and a great grandson: Tate Walker.
Mike’s greatest joy was his family. He coached his daughter’s softball teams and enjoyed watching his grandchildren ‘s sporting events. He loved to fish and hunt and, beyond all else, he enjoyed spending time with his family. Mike’s legacy will live on through the lives that he touched and his family will deeply miss his guidance, direction, love, and wisdom. He lived his life serving God first and foremost, and exemplified his testimony daily. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to many.
