Linda Sawyers Obituary

Linda Higgins Sawyers, 80, of Reidsville, passed away on  December 17, 2025 after a lengthy battle with dementia.

Linda was born on June 24,1945, in Draper, North Carolina, to Lloyd Thomas Higgins and Nellie Lovell Higgins.

In addition to her parents, Linda was predeceased by her husband, Orange Sawyers Jr.

Linda was an avid bird watcher and gardener, and her backyard was a testament to her work ethic and her green thumb. She created a space where something was in bloom and beautiful nearly year round, and she was at her happiest when she was in the backyard with her beloved grandchildren, whom she adored and who loved her in equal measure. She hosted every holiday and family birthday, and she was always mindful to make the meals and desserts we loved the most. We were richly blessed to be at her table and in her presence.

Before her illness, Linda enjoyed having lunch every month with her lifelong friends from Sadler School,  and going out for breakfast and shopping with her beloved friend and sister- in-law Carol.

She leaves behind her son, Jason Sawyers and wife Tina, and her daughters, Penny Baker and husband Johnny, and Diane Walker and husband David. Additionally, she is survived by her sisters, Carolyn Thurman and Wanda Overby and her brother, Tommy Higgins, sisters- in-law Carol Ellington and Linda Sartin, grandchildren Allison Howe and husband Steven, Brooke Snead Roberts and fiancé Joshua Pert, Benjamin Sawyers and wife Hunter, Grace Walker and partner Seanna Patterson, and Abigail Walker, and great grandchildren, Joshua, Steven, Dominic, Lily, Luna, and Hollyn, as well as several nieces and nephews. Lastly, Linda is survived by her dear canine companion, Daisy Mae Baker.

There will be no formal visitation. Burial service will be private.

Memorials in her memory may be made to Ancora Compassionate Care of Rockingham County. They were so helpful to us in assuring that we were able to keep Mama comfortable during her final days, and we  are forever grateful for their efforts.
