Kami Shay James

Kami Shay James, 17, of Ruffin went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 25, 2021. Funeral Services will be conducted at 4:00 PM Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Citty Funeral Home Chapel and burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Eden, NC.  The family will see friends from 3:00 PM until 4:00 PM on Thursday, April 29, 2021, at Citty Funeral Home. Those attending are asked to wear masks or face coverings and to please observe social distancing.  Anyone wishing to sign a register and pay their respects may come by Citty Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 from 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM and Thursday, April 29, 2021 from 8:00 AM until 4:00 PM.  She was a daughter of Tony Stephen and Barbara Hovatter James and she had lived in Ruffin all of her life.  Kami attended Bethel United Methodist church and was a student at Rockingham Co. High School where she had been a member of the band. She loved swimming, basketball, music, video games, riding four wheelers, fishing and especially loved going to the races with her father and brother.  She was kind hearted and always thought of others before herself.  Her smile and her love of family will be greatly missed.  Kami was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents; Edward V. James and Patsy R. James and by her maternal grandfather; Huel Hovatter.  Surviving are her parents; Stephen and Barbara H. James of the home, brother;  Mark  James of the home, sister;  Myra  James of the home, half-brother;  Preston Kennon of Ruffin, half-sisters;   Ashley Kennon of Ruffin & Nadia Shepherd of Madison, maternal grandmother;  Mary Lee Hovatter of Ruffin, and her uncle;  Thomas Hovatter, Jr. of Ruffin.  The family will see friends at other times at the residence, 314 Estes Rd.
