Jean Somers Hooper, 86, of Raleigh, NC went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 25, 2023 after a long illness.
Jean was born in Asheville, NC on May 7, 1937 to the late William and Emily Galliher. She lived in Reidsville most of her life. She was a faithful member of Main Street United Methodist Church for over 50 years, and was a member of the choir, served on the Board of Trustees, and participated in many United Methodist Women committees and activities. She worked as a bookkeeper at Sherwin Williams, and was a homemaker and a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Jean moved to Raleigh in 2004 and was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, shopping, playing bridge, and traveling.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her first husband, Ronald Somers and her second husband, Frank Hooper. She is survived by her daughters, Colleen Somers of Venice, FL and Cathy Houser (Tony) of Raleigh, NC, step-daughter Stephanie Hooper Leroy (Scott) of Wilmington, NC, grandchildren, Cathleen Levine (Aaron), Cameron Alarcon, Michael Houser, Katie Houser, Hattie Leroy, Tybee Leroy, great-granddaughter, Ria Levine, sister, Dorothy Canady, nephew Bob Somers (Pam), nieces Becky Cooper, Cindy Fogle, Jean Marie Canady, several great-nieces and great-nephews, and cousins.
A service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday September 2, 2023 at Citty Funeral Home in Reidsville, NC. Burial will follow at Wolf Island Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.
