James Garland McKinney

James Garland McKinney, 86, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at Ancora Compassionate Care, formerly Hospice Home of Rockingham Co.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Citty Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Andrew Brown officiating.  The family will see friends immediately following the service.

A native of Rockingham Co., he was a son of the late Ira Bush “Chug” and Brona Stadler McKinney and he had lived most of his life in the Williamsburg Community.  He  was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.  He was the owner and operator of McKinney Mobile Home Movers for many years.  James Garland was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Teresa Dale McKinney, sisters, Margie Burton, Wilson Ashley, and Geraldine McKinney, brothers, Wayne McKinney and Vernon McKinney.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Stone McKinney, daughters, Susan Richardson (Gary) of Greensboro, Cheryl DeLancey (David) of McLeansville, and Deanne Gunter (Jerry) of Reidsville, brother, Joseph Arlon McKinney (Sandee) of Mechanicsville, VA, grandchildren, Bryan Richardson, Jeremy Richardson, Justin DeLancey, Colby Gunter, and Macy Gunter, 6 great grandchildren.
