James Cary Gatewood III

James Cary “Jimmy” Gatewood III, 71, went to be with his Lord on Monday, July 14, 2025, at the Gibson Hospice Home.

A Memorial Service to honor Jimmy will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Woodmont United Methodist Church with Rev. Christi Taylor and Rev. Morris Brown officiating.  Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium.

Jimmy was born on July 5, 1954, in High Point to the late James Cary Gatewood Jr and Zoe Olivia Rodgers Gatewood and he had lived in Greensboro before moving to Reidsville 10 years ago.  He had been the Director of Contemporary Music at Woodmont United Methodist Church for the past 12 years.  He held a BA degree in music from UNCG and was a classically trained musician.  Jimmy composed many songs and had a YouTube Channel, Bob Spencer and Jimmy Gatewood, that contained many of his songs and other musical numbers that he performed.  He played and sang with the band” Windfall” for over a dozen years and with the Spencer Gatewood Duo. His talent will be greatly missed by his church family.  He always said that he wanted to lift people up through his music.  When he was out in the community, he often was known to never meet a stranger.  He loved to share his faith and to invite people to church.

Surviving is his half sister:  Christy Clement (Craig) of Trinity, his cousins:  Pam Anderson, Greg Krehel, Mary Buchanan, and Stephanie Dillon and his step-siblings:  Holt Williford (Kathy) and Beverly Giles and many loving friends who helped care for him during his illness.  The family would like to thank the Woodmont Family for all the care and support they have given Jimmy over the years.

Jimmy had requested that memorials be made to Woodmont United Methodist Church 1926 Richardson Dr.  Reidsville, NC  27320.  Citty Funeral Home is assisting the Gatewood family.
