James William Cobb

James William “Jimmy” Cobb, 79, of Reidsville, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at Annie Penn Hospital.

Jimmy was a devoted father, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend. Born and raised in Caswell County, he was the son of the late William Archie “Billy” and Leona Clayton Cobb. He graduated from Cobb Memorial High School (1964), attended Kings Business College (1965), studied agriculture studies at Piedmont Technical College (1974-1977), and took business courses at Rockingham Community College (1977–1978). He worked in the family business, Cobco Oil Company, Inc. in Casville from 1970–1984 and later served as a rural mail carrier with the Greensboro Post Office until his retirement. Jimmy was a proud U.S. Air Force veteran, attaining the rank of E-5 staff sergeant.

He was active in his community as a member of Caswell Brotherhood Masonic Lodge #11, the American Legion post #0089, and Wolf Creek Golf Club. He also previously served with the Caswell Volunteer Fire Department (Station #3) and was a member of the Reidsville Elks Lodge #1723 and the Reidsville Moose Lodge. Jimmy loved golf, water skiing, fishing, trips to the beach, and cheering on his grandchildren, nieces and nephews in any ballgame or dance recital. He was known for his quick wit, endless jokes and funny stories, beloved by family and friends who called him many nicknames over the years, including “Crow,” “Stumpy,” “Diamond Jim,” but his most favorite names were “Big Brother,” “Grandaddy” and “Uncle Jimmy.”

Survivors include; his brother Joe Cobb of Pelham; his sister Gail C. Williams (Rickey) of Reidsville; his son William Patrick Cobb (Crystal) of Reidsville; his daughter Sharon C. Smith (Alex) of Ruffin; grandchildren Katlyn Cobb and Carly Cobb (Holden); and great-grandchild Colton Tyler Cobb. He was also eagerly awaiting the arrival of great-granddaughter Zoe Jane Bailey in April.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, March 29, 2026, in the Citty Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ronnie Jones officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the residence, 1222 Fillman Dr., Reidsville, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Caswell Brotherhood Masonic Lodge #11, 986 Firetower Rd., Yanceyville, NC 27379, or Caswell Volunteer Fire Dept., Station #3, 10886 US-158, Ruffin, NC 27326.
