Hester Chapmon McKinney, 77, of Birmingham, AL went to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, June 4, 2020.
A graveside service, for family and close friends, will be conducted at Evergreen Memory Gardens Tuesday, June 9, 2020, at 11:00 AM with Dr. Greg Robertson officiating.
A native of Rockingham Co., she was a daughter of the late W. O. and Eva Tate Chapmon. Mrs. McKinney had lived in Birmingham, AL since 1974. Her faith and love of the Lord was first and foremost. She gave her life to the Lord in the sixth grade and continued in His service throughout her life.
Mrs. McKinney was passionate about the wellbeing of her family. She temporarily moved back to NC in 2000 to be close to and help care for her aging mother for five years before her passing. A homemaker, she loved crafts, writing poetry for her family and researching genealogy. Mrs. McKinney spent considerable time in recent years investigating the history of the Chapmon and McKinney families. She especially enjoyed finding old pictures and connecting them with her family tree. Mrs. McKinney contributed to several Christian Ministries. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her sisters: Athala Kuhl and Louise King.
She is survived by her son, Kevin McKinney of Pelham, AL, her daughter, Carla McKinney Wasden (Phil) of Jasper, GA, her brother; W. O. “Buddy” Chapmon, Jr. (Pat) of Archdale, NC, her sisters; Rhodalia Eaton of Reidsville, NC, Colleen Chrismon of Brown Summit, NC, Amelia “Pete” Pate of Brown Summit, NC, Anita Dove (Bobby) of Reidsville, NC, Jennie Banfield of Reidsville, NC, Glenna Canady (Kenneth Ray) of Tampa, FL, and her two much loved grandchildren; Hope Wasden of Los Angeles, CA and Jackson Wasden of Atlanta, GA.
