Gladys Taylor Gunn, 103 ½ years, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, July 30, 2021, at the Hospice Home of Rockingham County.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at First Baptist Church Reidsville with Rev. Kenny Houston and Dr. Bill Duke officiating. Burial will follow in Reidlawn Cemetery.
Born December 29, 1917, Gladys was the first child of the late Dillard and Lucy Talley Taylor and had lived in Reidsville and Rockingham Co. except the thirteen years Artie’s work took them to Scottsville, Virginia. Mrs. Gunn was the oldest member of First Baptist Church, a member of the Woman’s Missionary Union, and a former member of the Sharon Home Demonstration Club. Gladys and Artie were known for their vegetable gardens in NC and VA. She enjoyed flower gardening and yard work and talking with God as she worked outside. Gladys was a faithful “Missionary Mom” and corresponded with many missionaries. She sent encouraging cards and letters to many friends far and wide until a month before her death.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Artie L. Gunn, and sisters, Elizabeth Taylor, Marguerite Martin, and Kathleen Taylor.
Surviving is her daughter, Shirley Ann Gunn of the home; brother, Dillard Taylor of Reidsville; sister, Mildred T. Garrison of Reidsville; several nieces and nephews; and Shirley’s “adopted” grandchildren, Paul Olatunji of Cary, NC and Shirley Olatunji of Ibadan, Nigeria.
There will be no formal visitation but you may come by Citty Funeral Home on Monday, Aug. 2, 2021, from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. to sign a register and pay your respects. Online condolences may be made at www.cittyfh.com
