Fred Denny Obituary

On Tuesday, May 25, 2021, Fred Denny, the best Papa ever, passed away at the age of 70.

A Memorial Service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday, May 31, 2021, in Citty Funeral Home Chapel with Military Rites by the Rockingham Veterans Honor Guard and the N.C. National Guard with Rev. Peter Dodge officiating. The family will see friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. The family will also see friends on Sunday, May 29, 2021, from 3:00PM till 6:00 PM at the home of his daughter, Heather Whitsett, 551 Combs Rd.  Reidsville, NC  27320.  Those wishing to attend are asked, if they have not been vaccinated, to please wear masks or face coverings and to observe social distancing in keeping with CDC guidelines for COVID19.  The family also asks that those in attendance to wear Duke University attire or Duke Blue, especially if you are a Carolina fan.

Fred was born in Rockingham County on April 6, 1951 to the late Robert and Nannie Robertson Denny.  He served our country in the US Army in Vietnam and worked for the United States Postal Service for over 40 years.

Fred loved the Denver Broncos, the New York Yankees, and most of all, the Duke Blue Devils.  He was an avid traveler and loved to spoil his children and grandchildren.  In recent years, he especially loved to travel with his grandchildren, and spend time in Biloxi, MS.  He was always dropping by with treats for his kids and grandkids, and spent hours every day walking at Battleground Park in Greensboro.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death his step-mother, Fleetwood Denny, brothers, Roger and Robert Denny, half-brothers, Frankie, Raymond and Tom, and granddaughter, Aubrey Denny.

He is survived by his children, Stephanie Wood (Christopher), Heather Whitsett (Joe), and Chris Denny and their mother Karen Denny;  grandchildren, Jake Whitsett (Jakester), Sarah Whitsett (Purty Girl), Emily Whitsett (Chubba), Sophie Wood (Spud), Gabe Wood (Gabers), Allora Denny (AllyCat), and Georgia Wood (Scoot), brother, Teddy Denny (Sharon), sisters, Rhonda Moxley and Ann Hughes, and half-brothers, Phillip Denny (Jeanell) and Jerry Denny (Karen).

Memorials may be made to the Reidsville YMCA  504 S. Main St. Reidsville, NC 27320.
