Earl C. Smith, 87, of Reidsville, went to be with the Lord Monday September 27, 2021 at Peak Resources in Graham, NC. Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 AM Thursday September 30, 2021 in Thompsonville Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will see friends following the service in the cemetery. A native of Caswell County, he was the son of the late Coy Thomas and Nellie McKinney Smith and had lived in Rockingham County most of his life. He was an innovative tobacco farmer being the first to use the insecticide Orthene in transplant water for tobacco. This process is used by most all tobacco farmers today. Earl enjoyed hunting ,playing Rook, Putt Putt and watching John Wayne movies on T.V. Earl loved to garden and planted a large vegetable garden every year. He looked forward to giving most of the fruit of his garden to friends. He was a member of Thompsonville Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years: Jean Conner Smith, granddaughter: Crystal Ann Smith, and a great grandson: Hayden Owen Brown. Survivors include his daughters: Janice S. Willard (Randy) and Teresa S. Land (Mark) both of Reidsville, sons: Terry Smith (Ruby May) and Mark Smith (Angie) both of Reidsville, a sister: Norma Jean Oakley of Burlington, eleven grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.
