Dixie Ellison Cook, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2026 while at home with her loved ones. Dixie was born March 30, 1950; she was 76 years old.
Dixie was preceded in death by her parents Cecil and Hazel Ellison and her husband of 42 years, Donald R. “Donnie” Cook, Sr.
Dixie was born and raised in Reidsville, NC and lived her entire life here. In her early years, she was a certified nursing assistant at Annie Penn Hospital where she cared for and nurtured those in their time of need. Dixie went on to join the American Tobacco Co. Family where she would retire after 20 plus years and begin her greatest role in life, with the honorable title of “Nana”. Her life was devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren, but her heart was so kind and gentle that it was extended out to anyone who came into her home. Dixie would ‘adopt’ many “bonus children” over the years, and she loved them all as if they were her own.
Dixie is survived by her children, Donnie Ray Cook and wife Stacy of Eden, Dean Cook and wife Ellie, Diane Thomas and husband Jay all of Reidsville; grandchildren Samantha VanMeter, Drew Cook, Grey Cook, Keion Carter and Caelyn Thomas and great-grandchildren Easton and Paizley King.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, April 28th at 11:00 am at the Citty Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Milton Kennon Jr. Officiating with the burial following at Evergreen Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Monday, April 27th from 6:00 to 8:00pm and at other times at the home of her son, Dean Cook at 117 Cherokee Camp Rd., Reidsville, NC 27320.
