Dawn Deal Obituary

Dawn Annette Sparks Deal, age 59, of Reidsville, North Carolina, passed from this life on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, NC.

She was born on September 17, 1962 in Reidsville, North Carolina, daughter of the late Edwin Wayne “Beany” Sparks, Sr, and Alma Lea Tuttle Sparks. She graduated from Rockingham County Senior High School in 1980 and later studied Computer Technology at Brookstone College of Business. She was of the Methodist faith and attended Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church for many years.

Dawn had such a love for family and friends. She was the mother hen for her siblings and others. She had a magnetic personality with an infectious laugh and loved meeting new people. Many of her friends have been life-long. Even in the recent years, she would meet with high school friends and always loved those reunions, speaking about them for long after their reconnection.

She loved music. Concerts were always a favorite, either attending them, or being a part of the regularly occurring concerts with her siblings and whoever else wanted to grab a kitchen utensil microphone and join in. She also loved dancing and growing up rarely missed a Saturday afternoon with American Bandstand and Soul Train – where many of us learned our amazing dance skills. She also loved her ‘stories’ as our grandmothers would say. We knew not to call during “The Young and the Restless”.

Her family was incredibly important to her, but we all knew THE light of her life for the last 15 years has been ‘her’ Gavin. She had such joy and love for him and would tell stories about what he had said or funny things he had done. She and Randy moved as close to Gavin as they could which was such a benefit for her.

Dawn is survived by her husband Randy Deal, of Reidsville, North Carolina; two brothers,  Edwin Wayne Sparks, Jr (Neil MacAulay) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Bradley (Jennifer) Sparks of Ruffin, North Carolina; a sister, Gina Witherspoon (Jeffrey Perdue) of Eden, North Carolina; nephew, Gavin Wayne Witherspoon and niece, Bailey Sparks; stepson, Matt Deal (Kelley) of Durham, North Carolina; stepdaughter, Whitney McDearmon (Blair) of Greensboro, North Carolina; stepmother, Sheila “Cookie” Thompson of Somerset, Kentucky; two stepsisters, Carrie (Chris) Altmaier of Somerset, Kentucky and Jennifer (Rick) Stone of Memphis, Tennessee; Her brother-in-law; John Witherspoon, her wonderful friend who became family, Lori Dodson, and a host of close cousins and other relatives and friends.

A Graveside Service will be held at the Mount Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery, 361 Mt. Carmel Church Road, Reidsville, North Carolina at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 13, 2021 with Pastor Danny Campbell officiating.
