Carolyn Roberts Obituary

Carolyn Rand Roberts, 90, of Reidsville, went to be with the Lord Sunday, April 19, 2026, at Annie Penn Hospital in Reidsville, after a brief illness.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday April 24, 2026, in Citty Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ryan Burris officiating. Burial will be in Reidlawn Cemetery. The family will see friends 1:00 pm Friday, April 24, 2026, before the service at Citty Funeral Home.

A native, and lifelong resident, of Reidsville, NC, Carolyn was a daughter of the late James Hall and Allene Parker Rand. She met her future husband, Raeford Roberts, in 2nd grade, and their friendship grew into a loving relationship and marriage that lasted over 61 years, until his death in 2022. Carolyn enjoyed working with young people and spent several years as a school secretary at Reidsville Senior High School. She retired after 30 years working as a circulation clerk for the James Library at Rockingham Community College. Carolyn was a member of Baptist Temple Church and worked with the children in Sunday School for many years. She and Raeford were able to participate in several mission trips abroad with the church. She remained an active member until her health prevented her from attending.

Carolyn enjoyed the outdoors and tending to her flowers and flowering shrubs, both at her home and, later, at Brookdale Assisted Living Center where she resided in later years. She was fond of hummingbirds and watching the neighborhood birds gathering outside of her room window around the birdfeeder that her great-grandson, Houston, had gifted to her.

Carolyn found calmness and expression through journaling and creative writing, filling pages with her thoughts, stories, and imagination. She delighted in sharing her passion for coloring and drawing with fellow residents at Brookdale. Through her gentle encouragement and warm presence, Carolyn inspired others to explore their own creativity, leaving behind not only her art, but also a sense of connection that she fostered in those around her.

She was also known for her uncanny luck at Bingo, a pastime that brought her both joy and a bit of friendly notoriety. Whether it was a small prize or the afternoon’s biggest win, she carried her good fortune with a warm smile and a generous spirit, often sharing with others.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raeford D. Roberts. She was also preceded in death by her son, David Roberts; a granddaughter, Victoria Cox; her brother, John Cecil Rand and his wife Mildred; her sister, Jean R. Fowlkes and her husband Bobby, a brother-in -law, Archie Roberts; and a niece, Kim Denny.

Survivors include her daughter, Anne Roberts, as well as many loving grandchildren and their spouses, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She also leaves behind special friends Freda Shepard, Rebecca and Eric Houghton, Betty Ruth and Tommy Wilkerson, and Virginia Gammon Blackwell.
