Carol Alban Johnson

Carol Alban Johnson, 77, of Reidsville, went to be with the Lord Sunday April 17, 2022 at the Gibson House Hospice of Rockingham County.A memorial service will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Saturday April 23, 2022 at Citty Funeral Home with military rites.The family will see friends following the service at the funeral home. A native of Columbus, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Ed and Virgene Donaghue Alban and had lived in Reidsville for most of her life. Carol joined the United States Army Corps after attending Ohio State University for a short time. While in the Army, she served as the secretary for the Secretary of the Army at the Pentagon, where she met her husband Glenn Edd Johnson. Carol was crowned Miss Armed Forces in 1966. In her early life she was a very active member of Wentworth United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school. Later in life she was a very active member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. She was a retired rural mail carrier for the US Postal Service, worked Election Day for the Rockingham County Board of Elections, a former dance teacher, substitute teacher, Girl Scout Leader and Boy Scout Leader where she served on the Eagle Scout Review Board. She enjoyed working on genealogy, and working in her flower garden especially her purple and gold Irises. She volunteered as a docent at the Rockingham County Historical Society Museum and Archives, and she had a pure love for all animals.She is survived by her husband: Glenn Edd Johnson of the home, her son: James E. Johnson of Reidsville, her daughter: Mandy Johnson Yates and husband John of Portland, ME, and a brother: Larry Alban of Columbus, OH.
