Betty Sue Roberts Jones

Betty Sue Roberts Jones, 89, of Reidsville went to be with the Lord Monday November 23, 2020 at Brian Center in Eden, NC. Graveside memorial services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Saturday December 5, 2020 in Thompsonville Baptist Church Cemetery. A native of Rockingham County, she was a daughter of the late Charles C. and Eunice Simmons Roberts and had lived most of her life in Rockingham County. Betty was a 1950 graduate of Reidsville High School and attended Temple School in Washington, D.C and also Rockingham Community College. She had previously lived in Washington, DC and Knoxville, TN. She was a former administrative assistant for a U.S. Senator and later worked six years for N.A.S.A. where she received the Apollo Achievement Award for her service during the Apollo 11 Mission (First Man on the Moon). She had formerly worked at The U.S. Treasury Department for five years and The Department of Housing and Urban Development for thirteen years. Betty was preceded in death by her husband James “Jimmy” Jones, and her brothers: Charles C. Roberts, Jr. and Richard L. Roberts. She loved animals and her hobbies included playing the piano, gardening and learning. She was taking courses even at age 75.  Survivors include nieces: Cynthia L. Higham (Bruce) of Warsaw, IN, Eunice M. Nickolson (Steve) of Wake Forest, NC, a nephew: Stephen D. Roberts of Indianapolis, IN, three great nieces, two great nephews and two great great nieces.
