Betty Smith Obituary

Betty Harden Smith, 86, of Reidsville, went to be with the Lord Sunday February 1, 2026 at Heartland Living and Rehabilitation Center in Greensboro

The family will conduct a Celebration of Life Service at a later date.

A native of Greensboro, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Myrtie Harden and had lived in Reidsville since 1987 moving here from Greensboro. Betty was a former employee of Sears & Roebuck Distribution Center and later E.R. Squibb in Greensboro and was a retired Postal Clerk with the US Postal Service. She was an active member of Thompsonville Baptist Church, where she was a former choir member, W.M.U. member and Sunday School Teacher. She served on many committees throughout her membership in the church. She enjoyed cooking, traveling, and canning fruits and vegetables. Betty  was preceded in death by her husband: Eddie Lee Smith, brothers; Benny Paul Harden, Sr., and Marvin Harden, and a sister: Ruby Shelton.

Survivors include her daughter: Sheena Smith Straughan of Reidsville, and a son: Jeffrey L. “Jeff” Smith (Elizabeth) of Hoschton, GA, brothers: William Boyd Harden, MD (Rebecca) of Wilmington and Larry Harden (Carleen) of Greensboro, grandchildren: Brandon Reavis, Adam Smith (Whitney), Taylor Self (Tyler) and Collin Smith.
