Barbara Stewart Crook

After a short battle with breast cancer, and surrounded by her family, Barbara Stewart Crook, 84, of Reidsville, NC, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2020. A family graveside service will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday December 30, 2020 at Fairview Cemetery in Eufaula, AL. A larger memorial service in Reidsville, NC, will be planned at a later date TBD due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Barbara Stewart Crook was born in Greensboro, AL, to parents James Julian and Susie Walton Stewart on October 20, 1936. She attended the University of Alabama and later moved to Birmingham, where she met the love of her life, Dr. John Allen Crook III. They married July 25, 1959, in Greensboro, AL, and began their lives together in Augusta, GA, and later Reidsville, NC. Barbara made her impact on the Reidsville community through her friendships and her volunteer service. She was a member of Woodmont United Methodist Church and volunteered with cancer patient transportation, Free Clinic, Red Cross, Salvation Army, Garden Club, and was president of the Junior Service League. She enjoyed hosting and entertaining, going to the beach and painting, and traveling the world, especially to visit her family. Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. John Allen Crook III; her brother, George Stewart; and her brother-in-law Charles M. Crook. Barbara is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Caroline Crook Pinckard (Les), and son, John Allen Crook IV (Kate); brothers James Stewart (Darrah) and Bill Stewart (Linda); five grandchildren McDowell Pinckard (Andrea), Stewart Pinckard, Jack Crook, Georgia Crook, and Charlie Crook; one great-grandchild McDowell “Dow” Pinckard Jr.; sisters-in-law Caroline Crook Gage, Edith Johnston Crook, and Bretta Stewart; and nieces, nephews, and extended family. The Stewart and Crook families express their gratitude to those who supported Barbara by praying, visiting, bringing food, and sending cards and flowers.
