“B.T.” Boyd Ted “Popi” Simpson, Jr., 79, of Reidsville went to be with the Lord on Friday February 13, 2026 at Wesley Long Hospital Greensboro, NC. He loved his children and grandchildren and will be missed by many who have come to know him.
The family will conduct a memorial service at a later date.
A native of Wilmington, NC, he was a son of the late Boyd Ted and Thelma Chrissman Simpson and had lived in Rockingham County for the past 20 years moving here from Huntersville, NC. He was a retired Electronic Technician for Southern Bell/ A.T.& T and was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. B.T. attended Main Street United Methodist Church and started as a Theater Major at UNC Chapel Hill before he was drafted into the Army. He enjoyed theater, Shakespeare, reading, painting, and was an avid photographer. He loved music especially opera, show tunes, and all 1940’s music, his favorite song was “My Funny Valentine”. He had a passion for writing and had written a musical and several plays. B.T. loved nature and especially camping, he had camped all across the USA visiting many National and State Parks.
He was preceded in death by a daughter: Janet Lien Simpson Moone, and his sister: Janet Simpson Council.
Surviving is his wife of 47 years: Ellen Helms Simpson of the home, daughter: Krissy S. Hardy (Tom) of Reidsville, son: Jason Keith Simpson (Kendra) of Asheville, grandchildren: Audrey Dae Moone, William Hardy (Emmy), Rob Hardy, Mary Hardy, Cole Simpson, Collier Simpson (Jessica) and one great granddaughter: Korali Hardy.
