Allen Reid Blackwell, 90, went to be with the Lord Saturday April 11, 2026 at Annie Penn Hospital Surrounded by his loving family.
A graveside service will be conducted 11:00 AM Wednesday April 15, 2026 in Evergreen Memory Gardens with Rev. Victor Johnson officiating
There will be no formal visitation.
A native of Rockingham County, he was a son of the late Robert H. and Bessie Smith Blackwell and had lived his entire life in Rockingham County. A retired employee of the US Postal Service with 30 years of service, Allen loved to dance and enjoyed playing golf, but mostly, he enjoyed being around his friends at Wolf Creek Golf Club. After his retirement, he worked for Grandpa’s Boats in Greensboro delivering boats all around this region. He was preceded in death along with his parents, a brother: Robert Hill Blackwell , Jr. and his sisters: Cynthia B. Wood and Louise B. Vought.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years: Virginia Gammon Blackwell, daughter: Donna B. Hodges (Joe) of Yanceyville, son: Dale Reid Blackwell (Jennifer) of Reidsville, and a granddaughter: Megan B. Price (Nathan) of Durham.
