Shirley Plemmons Swann, 79, passed away on Thursday, July 19, 2018. She is now in the loving and glorious presence of our Heavenly Father and Savior. Completely free and completely at peace. Her citizenship was in Heaven, because her heart belonged to Jesus. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church in Reidsville.
Shirley was born in Madison County, NC in 1939. In 1946, her family moved to Haywood County, where she attended and graduated from Iron Duff High School. She attended Western Carolina University and graduated in 1958.
She moved to Reidsville in 1958 and started her teaching career at Lawsonville Avenue Elementary School. Later, she taught at Reidsville Middle School, retiring in 1990. In 1990, she joined her husband, Jimmy Swann, in opening Swann Paint Company, Inc. in downtown Reidsville. Shirley was also an active member in the Reidsville Downtown Corporation. She retired from Swann Paint Company, Inc. in 2007.
She was predeceased in death by her husband James Jaywood Swann, her daughter Lisa René Swann, her parents Raymond Plemmons and Alma Plemmons Suttles, her brother Donald Lee Plemmons, her stepfather Berlin Huey Suttles, her stepbrother Gerald Dale Suttles, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
She is survived by her daughter Kimberly Swann-King (Mason King), her sister Bernice Plemmons Clark, her stepsister Kirsten Gronbjerg, her niece Jeannia Clark, her nephew Jimmy Plemmons (Emily Plemmons), and five great nephews.
Shirley Swann's daughter would like to extend her very deepest gratitude to Dr. Edward Hawkins and his staff, Dr. Barbara Lowry and Vianey Pineda, Dr. Joseph D. Adams and Dr. Laura B. Hodges and their staff, and Amedisys Hospice of Burlington NC.
Memorial services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Tuesday July 24th in Citty Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Shannon Newsome, Pastor of Reidsville Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in Greenview Cemetery.
The family will see friends 6:00 till 8:00 PM Monday July 23rd at Citty Funeral Home and at other times will be at the residence.
