Robert Joseph Hackett, Sr. better known as “Hackbird” died at the age of 74 on Tuesday, August 14, 2018, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro, NC.
A celebration of life will be held at the VFW on Saturday 8/25/18 @ 1:00pm located at 113 Keefe St, Elmira, NY 14904. Bring your appetite and fond memories of Hackbird.
He was the son of the late Elvin and Dorothy Costa Hackett and had lived in Chemung Co., NY most of his life before retiring to Reidsville, NC in 2002. He was a US Navy Veteran and a retired foreman with the Chemung County Highway Department with 30 plus years of service. Mr. Hackett took great pride in his job and he had served as a volunteer fireman with the Webbs Mills Fire Dept. He was preceded in death by a Grandson; Ryan Hackett, Granddaughter; Kiersten Moore, 4 sisters and 1 brother.
Surviving is his wife; Viola Ann Roussell Hackett of the home, Robert Hackett Jr of Elmira, NY, Richard Hackett (Misty) of Reidsville, NC, Violet Wheat (Bruce Palo) of Harker Heights, TX, and Joanne Jenkins (Bruce Gilmore) of Freeville, NY, grandchildren; Jamie Hopkins (Nick), Tony Baker, James Hurd, Elizabeth Hurd, Eric Reeves, Anna Palo, Chelsey Hackett, Lauren Hearn (Gregory), Leslee Williams (Brandon), Hannah Hackett, MacKenzie Moore (Patrick), & Megan Jenkins, and 6 great grandchildren.
