Ralph Edward Myers, 95, of Reidsville, NC went to be with the Lord Tuesday May 22, 2018 at his home.
Private Memorial Services were conducted at Citty Funeral Home.
A native of Boynton Beach, FL, he was the son of the late Roy Osborn and Rachel Meredith Myers and had lived in Rockingham County since 1971. He was a US Marine Corps Veteran of WWII and was preceded in death by his wife: Isabel Trawick Myers, and his sisters: Martha Swem, and Helen Thornton. He was a graduate of the University of Florida in Gainesville FL. In the 1950’s he was a self- employed Architectural Engineer and Contractor. In the 1960’s he worked for TWA, one of the contracting firms charged with designing and building the Vehicle Assembly Building at the Kennedy Space Center. Built from November 1963 to its completion in 1965 this building had the distinction of being the largest, by interior volume, building in the world. It has held this title for more than 50 years. He received a Presidential Citation from then President Lyndon Baines Johnson for his work on that building. After moving to Rockingham County, Ralph worked for HUD in Greensboro and raised Polled Herefords on their farm in Williamsburg. He set the standard in North Carolina Agriculture for raising Polled Herefords. When he retired from HUD he started a contracting business and helped design, and built, the Reidsville Free Medical Clinic. He also became a Lay Minister in the United Methodist Church, and published a Christian News Magazine. Ralph had a great desire to help the poor in his community.
In later years he had a special relationship with Rick Wall, Lori Browning, and Amy Wiseman who cared for Ralph and Isabel and their household.
Survivors include: sons: Jerry Myers Anderson and his wife, Jo Marie, of Albuquerque, NM, Ralph E. “Russ” Myers, Jr. and his wife, Catherine, of Crozet VA, and a daughter, Angela M. “Missie” Abbott and her husband, Roger, of Haines City, FL, Grand children: Joshua, Christina, Jeremiah, Jessica, Lisa, Stephen and 9 great grandchildren.
