Larry Allen Baynes

Larry Allen Baynes,72, died on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at the Hospice Home of Rockingham County.

A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Saturday May 11, 2019 in Comer’s Chapel Baptist Church and burial will follow in Evergreen Memory Gardens with military rites by the Rockingham Co. veteran’s honor guard.  The family will see friends 1 hour prior to the service in the Comer’s Chapel Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.

A native of Reidsville, he was a son of Nola Moore Halbrook and the late Flavious Oscar Baynes and he had lived in Virginia Beach, Va. for many years before moving back to Rockingham Co. 12 years ago.  He was a graduate of N C State with a degree in Textile Chemistry and a US Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam War where he achieved the rank of Captain.  Larry was the President of the Intelligence Ruritan Club, a member of the Model T Ford Club of America and the Citizens Academy of Rockingham County.  He attended Comer’s Chapel Baptist Church and had been employed as a chemist, a consultant and had been a substitute teacher in the Rockingham Co. School System.

Surviving are his sons;  Peter Baynes (Whitney Atkins) of Christiansburg, VA, and Zachary Baynes of Virginia Beach, VA, his daughter;  Leslie Baynes (Jeffrey Pineda) of Bahama, NC, his mother;  Nola Moore Halbrook of Reidsville, his brother;  Johnny Baynes (Cookie) of Greensboro, his nieces; Jennifer Beane (Phil), Jeannie Hinson (Richard), great niece; Kyndall Beane, great nephews; Cohen Beane and Conner Hinson;  his step-sister;  Cheryl Cook (David) of Eden, his grandchildren;  Cormac Pineda, Campbell Pineda, and Crosby Pineda. special friend Linda Martin
