Joseph Garfield "Joe" Knighten, Jr.

Joseph Garfield Knighten, Jr., 79, went to be with his Lord, on Thursday, September 5, 2019, at the Hospice Home of Rockingham Co.

A Celebration of his life will be held on Monday evening, September 9, 2019, at 6:30PM in Citty Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Lattimer officiating  military rites will follow by the Rockingham Co. Veteran’s Honor Guard.  The family will see friends immediately following the service at the funeral home and at other times they will be at the residence.

A Life-long resident of Rockingham Co., he was a son of the late Joseph G. Knighten, Sr. and Lillie Martin Knighten  and had lived in Wentworth for many years. Mr. Knighten was a US Army Veteran and was a retired  pipefitter with Morgan Mechanical Contractors.

Surviving is his wife of 46 years; Debbie Purgason Knighten of the home, son;  Joe Knighten , III and fiance’ Maria Hardy of Pelham, daughter;  Crystal Pyrtle and husband Jay of Wentworth, grandchildren;  Tori Knight and husband Robert, Morgan Friddle, Joseph Knighten IV, Harlee Knighten, Reese Pyrtle, Wyatt Knighten, & Hayden Pyrtle, 1 great grandchild;  Gavin Knight.
