Reidsville, NC

Harold Lloyd McKinney, 91, of Reidsville passed away at his home after several years of declining health.
Funeral services will be conducted at Mission 1st of Woodmont UMC at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday April 3, 2018 with Rev. Mark Christy officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens with military rites provided by The Rockingham County Veterans Honor Guard..
McKinney, born September 7, 1926, is a native of Pineview, NC. He was a son of the late Ruby Smith McKinney and Stephen Brooks McKinney.
Harold "Smiley" McKinney, was the owner and founder of Reidsville TV and Appliance Center for over 50 years in downtown Reidsville who later moved the business which became McKinney TV to Gibbs Drive after retiring.
Upon receiving his certification of completion of apprenticeship by the state of NC in 1957; he worked for Holderby Radio Shop as a tv technician prior to opening Reidsville TV and Appliance Center in 1964.
He is a US Army veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He received a battle star while fighting in the European theater of operations during World War II and reenlisted in the army during the Korean Conflict.
McKinney was a long time and faithful member of First United Methodist Church (now known as Mission 1st,of Woodmont UMC) where he was active in the Methodist Men, served on the Administrative Board and many other activities in the church and was a delegate to Annual Conference at Lake Junaluska. He always enjoyed the fundraising event of making and selling award winning brunswick stew.
In his younger years, he was a member of the Reidsville Civitan Club, American Legion and past president of the Rockingham Speaker Club.
McKinney was an avid golfer throughout the years. Most known for his leadership and participation over 20 years in the Sanitary Classic Golf tournament held twice a year and sponsored by Bill Simpson with scholarships going to Rockingham Community College. This was a big part of his life in the retirement years. His hobbies were traveling, dining out and gardening. Loved sharing his garden vegetables with his neighbors and friends.
Harold McKinney was best known by all for his quick wit and love for all people. Always a smile on his face and telling a joke gave him the nickname "Smiley". Most of all he loved his family. He was a dedicated loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved his extended family and always looked forward to going to the McKinney reunions held every September.
McKinney was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Doyle B. McKinney, Stephen Boyd McKinney and Wallace McKinney.
Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years: Shirley Petty McKinney of the home, daughter: Deborah M. Burnett of Reidsville, grandson: Brian L. Burnett and wife Melody Burnett of Archdale, NC, and great granddaughter: Autumn Alexis Burnett, sister: Juanita Braxton of Snow Camp, NC, two special sisters-in-law: Barbara McKinney Walker and Bernice McKinney Gladkowski. Several nieces and nephews and cousins.
The family expresses their appreciation to Cone Hospitals, Greensboro and Reidsville and the Penn Center for their professional care and support. A special thank you to our friends, members of the church and our neighbors.
The family will receive friends 6:00 till 8:00 P.M. Monday April 2, 2018 at Citty Funeral Home and at other times will be at the home 1540 W. Harrison St. Reidsville, NC
