Ruby Morgan Sheridan was born on January 5, 1919 to Asbury Hicks Morgan and Bess Mae Mobley Morgan in Shelby, NC. She died on July 31, 2017 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, NC.
She received her B.S. Degree from Woman's College (UNC-G) and graduate degree from UNC-G.
During WWII she worked as a civilian employee for the Army Special Services, serving as Manager and Recreation Director for several Army service clubs in North Carolina and Alabama. She worked as Food Service Manager for 25 years at Charlotte Country Club, Duke University, UNC-G, Wake Forest College, and the Sears Roebuck Mail Order Plant in Greensboro. Mrs. Sheridan taught at St. Petersburg Junior College and Florida Junior College and retired as Associate Professor at East Carolina University.
She was active in Pilot Club International, serving as President of clubs in Winston-Salem, Greensboro and Clearwater, FL, and as Lieutenant Governor and Governor of District Six.
In retirement she enjoyed volunteering for Meals on Wheels, the American Cancer Society and the Committee for Services to the Elderly. Mrs. Sheridan was named Outstanding Senior Citizen of the Year by the NC Senior Citizens Association in 1993. She was the first Caswell County representative to the Senior Tar Heel Legislature.
Mrs. Sheridan moved to Brookridge Retirement Community in 2000. She volunteered in various capacities, served on the Resident's Council and enjoyed being a member of the Book Club.
Mrs. Sheridan was active in church life in all the communities where she lived. As a member of Yanceyville Presbyterian Church, Mrs. Sheridan served as Elder, Clerk of the Session, organist and choir member. After moving to Winston-Salem, she joined Parkway Presbyterian Church and served as Deacon, President of TOFF (senior citizen's group) and member of the Rebecca Circle. She was a Charter Member of Knollwood Baptist Church and, in later years, attended services there as long as her health permitted.
Mrs. Sheridan was predeceased by her parents, her husband Charles Linwood Sheridan, brothers George W. Morgan and Bruce M. Morgan and niece Jan M. Clouse. She is survived by her nephew George W. Morgan, Jr. (Kay) and her nieces Phyllis M. Tate (David), Lynn M. Caniglia (Don), Rhonda Till (John), and Donna Clifton (Jonathan) and brother-in-law Hunter Sheridan and sisters-in-law Jo Ann Davis and Nancy Greene.
A private burial service will be held at Reidlawn Cemetery in Reidsville, NC. A memorial service will be conducted at Knollwood Baptist Church at 2:00pm on Friday, August 4, 2017 followed by a brief time of fellowship in the narthex.
