Harry was a fine man and friend. I remember as a young man first meeting and playing golf with Harry, oh to have his golf swing. A bigger impression was made on me by Harry's manors and how he treated people. Without having to say anything you knew Harry was a Christian. May good memories bring a smile to your face, a life well lived.

I interviewed Harry for an article in Triad Golf Today on the occasion of him scoring his 10th career hole-in-one and shooting 10 shots under his age at Wolf Creek on June 6, 2012. He added his 11th hole-in-one on May 29, 2016, which was also chronicled in Triad Golf Today.
Harry was a true gentleman that I had the pleasure of playing a few rounds with back in the 70s, 80s and 90s at Wolf Creek. I got to know him even more when I worked with him on the Williams-Trull advertising in the Reidsville Review.
Mark, Harry Jr. and Karen ... so sorry for the loss of your father.
-- Steve Williams
Here's the article from the July 2012 issue of Triad Golf Today:
Shooting your age and making a hole-in-one are two rare accomplishments in golf. How about doing it in the same round?
Harry Welker of Reidsville accomplished both on June 6 at Wolf Creek Golf Club when he aced the 125-yard second hole on his way to a 3-over-par 73 – 10 shots under his age.
Playing in a group with Sonny Dove, Jett Cross, Lyle Heath and Mark Draughn, Welker used a 6-iron for his perfect shot over a lake to the slightly uphill green.
“It was straight at the hole with a slight fade,” he said. “It landed right at the base of the hole. I had turned around but Sonny Dove said ‘it fell in.’”
Shooting his age is nothing new for Welker nor is posting a “1” on the scorecard. It was his 10th ace, but the first on Wolf Creek’s second hole.
His round started with a birdie on the par-4 first hole and then the ace. He added a couple birdies on the side but doubled the par-4 ninth to make the turn in 33. He shot a 40 on the back nine.
“I manage to keep it under my age almost every time but that was a good round,” he said of the 73. Welker said he was not sure if the 73 was the lowest he’s ever finished under his age.
“I’ve shot a couple of 67s but I don’t know how old I was,” he said.
Welker said he started playing in the 60s and has been a regular member at Wolf Creek all these years. His first ace came Nov. 3, 1980 on No. 2, which is now No. 11.
Wolf Creek was a nine-hole course until 1996.

Absolutely the finest person I have ever known! Great brother-in-law who loved my sister and always had the welcome mat out for us when we visited NC. We played golf together and enjoyed life. Jesus has already welcomed Harry in Heaven and the nice part is we will live together forever as a family of God. Thank you Harry for all the fond memories. I am sorry to miss spending time with the family, but I'm having a total Left Hip Replacement surgery. Love to all the family and friends of Harry.
